Corey and Claire were both born and raised in southern California. Claire, firstborn daughter of Phil and Diane Magnan, came to know Jesus at a young age and again rededicated her life to Christ in her twenties. After a history of addiction, Corey’s life was completely transformed by the renewing power of Jesus Christ in his twenties. They met in 2003, and in 2004 started going to Shadow Mountain Church together. Later that same year, they attended Calvary El Cajon, where they married. Together, they have 8 children and 2 grandchildren. They served in children’s ministry at Calvary El Cajon and in 2008, felt a calling to attend Pine Valley Community Church in their home town. There, they served in children’s ministry and became worship leaders. In 2016, their small hometown church had grown and Corey felt called to pastorship and to the Oregon Coast to serve with his in-laws. His family confirmed the same calling to serve at Calvary Lincoln City and they moved to the coast in November 2016. In 2019, Corey was ordained. They together serve their family and this church faithfully.
Diane was born in California, and as a teenager, accepted Christ as her lord and savior. Phil was born in Washington to a Catholic family, and as a teenager he accepted Christ at a Baptist Church in San Diego where he also married Diane. They have 3 daughters, 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Phil and Diane began attending a Calvary Chapel in San Diego in 1991. They founded pro-life and pro-family ministries which took them all over the USA, teaching at various churches. In 2006, they moved to Budapest, Hungary to continue teaching in Europe, returning to the states in 2007. In 2010, they responded to the call God had placed on their hearts to start a church in Oregon. They moved to Lebanon where he was asked to begin Creekside School of Ministry at Lebanon Calvary Chapel. In June of 2012 they started this church in Lincoln City, where they together devote their time and resources to the Lord.
Pastor Phil and Diane Magnan knew the Lord was calling them to plant a church in the coastal town of Lincoln City, and in June 2012, they started Calvary Chapel Lincoln City. They began meeting at a small storefront near J’s Fish and Chips, and after one year, they met weekly at the Taft High School Community Room. After about a month at the school, the Evangelical Church approached Phil and Diane Magnan to begin meeting at their church building. They began to teach their mid-week services there and, since the Evangelical Church did not have a pastor at the time, began teaching the Sunday services as well. In July 2013, the two churches decided to merge congregations. Since that time, they have grown as one family serving Christ!
Pastor Corey Rivera was ordained in our church in January 2019, and in June 2022, was made Lead Pastor of Calvary Chapel Lincoln City. Pastor Phil Magnan stepped into the Executive Pastor position from being the former Lead Pastor. Together, they and their wives and their families humbly serve our church body in many ways.
